Permanent Rodent Prevention in Drains
A rat flap is a one-way valve fitted inside your drain pipe at the point where your property connects to the main sewer. It allows water and waste to flow out normally but creates a physical barrier that stops rats from swimming back up the pipe into your property. The flaps we install are made from stainless steel, designed to last for years with minimal maintenance, and are sized to fit snugly inside the existing pipe without restricting normal drain flow.
Installation starts with a CCTV survey to confirm the right location for the flap and check the pipe is in good enough condition to receive it. We then clean the pipe section to remove any debris that might prevent a secure fit, and install the flap through the existing manhole or access point. The whole process typically takes about an hour. There's no digging, no damage to your property and your drains work as normal straight after installation.

Lasting Protection, No Maintenance Needed
Our stainless steel rat flaps are built to withstand the conditions inside a sewer pipe and don't require regular servicing once fitted. Installation is covered by our workmanship guarantee and we're fully insured with public liability cover. We carry out rat flap installation across Dublin, Kildare, Meath and Wicklow, and we combine the service with drain repairs where damaged pipes are also contributing to the rodent access problem.
Most customers contact us after a pest controller has confirmed that rats are coming through the drains. If you've already had pest control treatment but the problem keeps returning, that's a strong sign the drain entry route hasn't been closed. Get in touch and we'll carry out a CCTV inspection to confirm the access point and fit the rat flap in the same or a follow-up visit.
Who Needs a Rat Flap Fitted
Rat flap installation is appropriate for any property where rodents are suspected to be accessing via drains, or where the drainage system has characteristics that make rodent entry a realistic risk. Older properties with clay pipe systems are particularly susceptible because joints and connections that have shifted over decades create gaps large enough for rats to pass through.
- Properties with a history of rat activity near drain covers
- Older buildings with clay or deteriorated pipe systems
- Properties close to commercial food businesses or waste storage
- Properties where pest control treatment has not fully resolved the problem
- Any property where rats have been seen near drain inspection chambers
- Properties near rivers or areas with known sewer rat populations

Rat Flap Installation FAQs
No. The rat flap opens freely to allow water and waste to pass through and closes when flow stops, preventing rats from swimming back up. Properly installed, it has no noticeable effect on drain performance.
Installation typically takes about an hour from start to finish, including the pre-installation pipe clean and a final check. The CCTV survey at the start adds a little time but is essential to confirm the right location and pipe condition.
Yes, we always carry out a CCTV inspection first. This confirms the best position for the flap, checks the pipe is structurally sound, and identifies any other damage that might also be allowing rodent access.
Stainless steel rat flaps are built to last for many years in sewer conditions. They don't require routine maintenance, though we'd recommend including the flap in any future CCTV inspection to confirm it's still seated correctly.
In most cases, yes. We assess the pipe condition and dimensions first using the CCTV camera. If the pipe is in poor condition overall, we may recommend a repair or relining job first to give the flap a solid surface to seat against.
