Drainage & Plumbing in Maynooth
Dylex Drains & Plumbing serves Maynooth, Kildare's fourth largest settlement, with a **2-hour emergency response aim**, 24/7 all year.
Drainage & Plumbing in Maynooth
Maynooth is home to 17,259 people according to the 2022 census, making it the fourth largest settlement in County Kildare, with university students nearly doubling that population in term time. The Lyreen River passes through the centre of town, the Meadowbrook Stream and Mill Race join it upstream of the bridge at Mill Street, and the Lyreen itself meets the Rye Water about 1.2 km downstream in the north-east of the town. Uisce Éireann is currently building an 8.9 km sewer pipeline from the Maynooth Wastewater Pump Station on Dunboyne Road to Confey in Leixlip, a €24 million project designed to carry Maynooth's wastewater to the Leixlip treatment plant and allow for around 11,500 more homes.
Dylex Drains & Plumbing is based in Lucan and covers Maynooth as part of its wider service area across Dublin and surrounding counties. On emergencies we aim to be with you within 2 hours, and non-emergency drain repairs and maintenance are attended the same day.
About Maynooth
In November 2000, the Meadowbrook Stream caused extreme flooding of the Meadowbrook housing estate, sections of road and Parson Street, while the Lyreen flooded the grounds of Maynooth College and part of the M4 was closed. The Lyreen and Meadowbrook Flood Relief Scheme, carried out between 2002 and 2003, cleaned 4 km of the Lyreen and 1.6 km of the Meadowbrook channel, repaired or replaced culverts, repaired a wall at Parsons Lane, and added trash screens and flap valves, giving increased flood protection to 30 properties.
Uisce Éireann's update of 24 July 2026 said all 8.9 km of pipe was laid and a 4.3 km water main installed; the project was still listed as 'In progress' on 3 October 2026, with permanent road reinstatement expected by late Q1 2027. Maynooth is on the R148 between Leixlip and Kilcock and on the Dublin-Sligo railway line, and the M4 motorway bypasses the town. We're available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, so call 01 912 8882 whenever you need us, or use the contact form on our website.

Maynooth's Universities and Drain Responsibility
St Patrick's College was founded in Maynooth in 1795 to train Ireland's Catholic clergy, and Maynooth University became separate from it in 1997. University students nearly double Maynooth's population in term time.
Uisce Éireann maintains the public sewer network in Maynooth; the property owner is responsible for all internal plumbing and the private pipework running from the property all the way to the sewer main, including the length running outside the boundary under the garden, footpath or road. Where several properties drain into one shared pipe, Uisce Éireann's position is that all properties contributing to the flow share responsibility for a blockage in that shared section. If you believe a blockage is in the public sewer, the number to report it is 1800 278 278.
Wastewater Treatment Grants for Maynooth
If a domestic wastewater treatment system on your Maynooth property has failed a local authority inspection, a grant of 85% of costs up to a maximum of €12,000 is available to repair, upgrade or replace it. Three routes to eligibility exist: the system failed an inspection under the National Inspection Plan; it sits in a Priority Area for Action under the River Basin Management Plan 2022-2027; or it sits in a High Status Objective Catchment Area. The house must be permanently occupied, built at least seven years ago, and must not have received a DWWTS grant in the previous seven years. Applications are made to and administered by the local authority's rural water section — a contractor cannot apply on your behalf. The grant does not cover routine maintenance, servicing or de-sludging of the system.
