Drainage & Plumbing in Celbridge
Celbridge sits on the River Liffey, 23 km west of Dublin, and is the third largest town in County Kildare with a population of 20,601 recorded in the 2022 census. The town has a long history of flooding events, and the OPW's 2017 flood study for the Liffey named Celbridge as an area for further assessment. A CCTV drain survey uses a small waterproof camera to inspect drains from the inside and find blockages, cracks, tree root damage or collapsed pipes without digging.
We also cover Leixlip, Maynooth and Lucan, which are the nearest measured areas to Celbridge. On emergencies, we aim to be with you within 2 hours of your call.
Celbridge's Sewers and Flood History
Uisce Éireann completed an upgrade of 5 km of sewer along the Dublin Road in Celbridge, together with the Primrose Hill Wastewater Pumping Station, in 2024, to add capacity, improve performance and reduce flood risk. A second project, the Crodaun Wastewater Network Upgrade, lays over 2.1 km of sewer from the Castletown Wastewater Pumping Station to Crodaun Forest Park, via Castletown Estate, Castletown Drive and the R405 Maynooth Road, with permanent reinstatement expected in the first half of 2027. Minor flood works were also approved on the Tori River in Celbridge in 2009, covering river diversion, channel upgrades and a new channel.
Celbridge is served by the M4 at Junction 6, the Celbridge Interchange, and is one of the areas we cover. Call 01 912 8882 or use the contact form on the website to get a free, no-obligation quote.

Drain Responsibility in Celbridge
Uisce Éireann is responsible for maintaining the public sewer network; as a property owner in Celbridge, you are responsible for the private pipework running from your property all the way to where it meets the public sewer main, including any section that runs outside your boundary under the footpath or road. Where several properties drain into one shared pipe, Uisce Éireann's position is that all contributing properties share responsibility for a blockage in that shared section. If you suspect a blockage in the public sewer, you can report it to Uisce Éireann on 1800 278 278; their published expectation is that sewer flooding on the public side is dealt with generally within 24 hours of being reported.
Domestic Wastewater Treatment Grants
If your domestic wastewater treatment system has failed a local authority inspection, a grant of 85% of eligible costs, up to a maximum of €12,000, may be available to repair, upgrade or replace it. To qualify, the property must be permanently occupied, built at least seven years ago, and must not have received a Domestic Wastewater Treatment System grant in the previous seven years. Applications are made to and administered by the local authority's rural water section; the grant does not cover routine maintenance, servicing or de-sludging.

In Celbridge, as elsewhere in Ireland, Uisce Éireann maintains the public sewer network, but you as the property owner are responsible for the private pipework running from your property all the way to the public sewer main, including any section outside your boundary under the footpath or road. Where several properties share one drain pipe, Uisce Éireann's position is that all contributing properties share responsibility for any blockage in that shared section. To report a blockage you believe is on the public side, contact Uisce Éireann on 1800 278 278.

Uisce Éireann's sewer upgrades in Celbridge, including 5 km of sewer along the Dublin Road completed in 2024 and the Crodaun Wastewater Network Upgrade begun in January 2026, were carried out to add capacity, improve performance and reduce flood risk on the public network. Your private pipework, from your property to where it meets the public sewer, remains your responsibility regardless of what is happening on the public network. If you have a blockage or suspect damage to your private drain, Dylex Drains & Plumbing can investigate and repair it.
